Information for Expatriate Transferees:
What you will need:
• Your Passport, Visa and I-94
• Social Security Applications Forms filled out
• Extra form of identification (if Passport is less than 1 year old)
Tax Identification Number:
If you have any dependents here in the United States with you that do not have a Social Security Number, then you will
need to apply for this the first time your taxes are prepared for you in the U.S. This number is used for tax purposes and
will be linked to your Social Security Number. You will need to make a copy of your dependents’ passports, Visa and
I-94 card. You will need to have the copies notarized, then you will fill out the W-7 Form. You will need to give the
completed W-7 Form and notarized copies to the person doing your taxes, and they will send in this information with
your tax information and a Tax Identification Number will be issued at that time. This is an important number that you
will need each year. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) can be reached at 1.800.826.1040 for further questions.
United States Will:
While you are living in the U.S., you will need to have a U.S. will. It is recommended that you see an attorney to
make sure that the Will is prepared properly.
Change of Address for Immigration and Naturalization Services: (INS)
You will need to inform the INS of your change of address within 10 days of moving. Be sure to fill out the INS A-11
Form, which can be found on-line at:
